ON GAINING A BETTER CONCEPTION OF GOD

Though few people realize it, there is nothing so important in life as the attainment of a true and lofty conception of God.

Most of the time we accept the appearance of things and move in a world that presents itself to our senses as material. But this world does not constitute reality. Its conditions are dreamlike, and even its wisdom cannot tell us of absolute fact. The Bible contains quite a different kind of wisdom. Christ Jesus called it "the truth" and said that he came into the world to "bear witness" to it (John 18:37). This truth is spiritual and. concerns the nature of God.

Divine Science is concerned with this same truth. Mary Baker Eddy says in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 146), "Divine Science derives its sanction from the Bible, and the divine origin of Science is demonstrated through the holy influence of Truth in healing sickness and sin." By studying this Science we gain a clearer conception of God and can correct mistaken human assumptions, assumptions which enthrone matter and leave the Almighty out of His universe.
