In Genesis we read that God...

In Genesis we read that God gave man dominion over all the earth. What a glorious reason for existing! In Christian Science we are taught that man has dominion over all the claims of the flesh. At the passing on of my mother I had the privilege of proving dominion over grief and separation.

On page 251 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us that "in the illusion of death, mortals wake to the knowledge of two facts: (1) that they are not dead; (2) that they have but passed the portals of a new belief." The instantaneous healing of grief came when I pondered the statement that mortals wake to the knowledge that they are not dead. My consciousness was uplifted by the thought of the exaltation of my dear one at her realization that she had not died. How then could I possibly impede her progress by bowing to the suggestion of grief?

Other helpful messages came from reading Mrs. Eddy's articles "'Hear, O Israel'" and "There is No Death" on pages 296 and 297 respectively of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany." When I spoke of this instantaneous healing to the practitioner who had worked for me and told her that I was in humble awe at the immediacy of the healing, she pointed out that it was the result of a daily elevation of family relationships and that it had not been the work of a moment, but of daily ascension and of my claiming God as the only Father-Mother.
