The Psalmist wrote (Ps. 45:1)...

The Psalmist wrote (Ps. 46:1), "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." One morning just before going into attack with my infantry company in Europe during World War II my squad and I were talking of God's protection. At that moment the enemy sent over several mortar shells. We were all taken by surprise and sought shelter in a nearby ditch. I crawled onto the back of one of my buddies, as all available space had been taken. This buddy later remarked that all he could remember of the incident was my repeating the Lord's Prayer.

No one was injured during this experience, and we all went about our duties marveling over our protection. I know that God, divine Love, was present, as always, to sustain and protect His children. After nine months of combat I returned home unharmed.

Soon after arriving home I took up a sincere study of Christian Science, and it has been both sweet and rewarding. Although I have had many instantaneous healings, I am most grateful for a change of heart and for the betterment of my character and disposition. The smoking and social drinking habits have been recognized as false appetites and have been destroyed.
