With joy and gratitude for the many proofs of the healing power of Truth revealed in Christian Science I give this testimony.

Many years ago, when I was a child, I witnessed the healing of an uncle through this Science. The conviction of its power to heal was so instilled in my consciousness that nothing has been able to shake it. My uncle was forced to undergo an operation for cataracts, and although the operation was performed by an eminent specialist, it was unsuccessful, leaving him totally blind. His visual organism was wrecked beyond human repair.

He then turned to Christian Science for help, and his sight was restored. He proved true this statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p.393): "When Jesus declares that 'the light of the body is the eye,' he certainly means that light depends upon Mind, not upon the complex humors, lenses, muscles, the iris and pupil, constituting the visual organism." Although the iris and pupil of one of his eyes never returned to the place that mortal mind calls necessary for sight, he could see.

In spite of this wonderful demonstration of the power of Truth, my immediate family did not accept Christian Science, and I attended an orthodox Sunday School. However, after I was grown up, this same uncle gave me my first copy of Science and Health, the textbook of Christian Science, and I have not been without one Since.

About twenty years ago, while we were living in the East, my husband, who was not a Christian Scientist, became very ill with neuritis in both legs and was in constant pain. He went to many doctors and tried numerous material remedies. We even moved to California because he hoped that the warmer climate would bring him some relief, but this was not the case.

My husband finally asked a Christian Science practitioner for help, which was lovingly given. He threw away all material remedies, daily studied the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, and regularly attended the services in a Church of Christ, Scientist. In a few weeks he was healed. Since that time Christian Science has been our only means of healing.

More recently, through the help of a practitioner, together with my consecrated study of the textbook and the reading of Christian Science literature, I was healed of toothache due to an exposed nerve. About three years ago a practitioner helped us to overcome hate and resentment, which resulted from a disagreement in connection with property rights, and we found those in the community kindly and friendly.

I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and for the Christian Science periodicals.—(Mrs.) Wilma Holmes Chapman, Los Angeles, California.
