THE ALLNESS OF LOVE

The purpose of Christian Science is not to use love merely as a means or a method of bringing harmony to humanity, but to prove the allness of Love. Only a God who is Love could produce a perfect manhood and a spiritual universe. Only a God who is Love could endow His offspring impartially with goodness and power. It is the very perfection of Love that makes it omnipotent and All.

Christ Jesus exemplified the real man, Love's emanation, and his works showed the power which accompanies the understanding that Love fills the universe and that there is no Mind but Love. False theology teaches that the Master suffered in order to appease the anger of a personal God, but Mary Baker Eddy gives the scientific interpretation of his life's purpose in "No and Yes," where she says (P. 35), "It was not to appease the wrath of God, but to show the allness of Love and the nothingness of hate, sin, and death, that Jesus suffered."

It was the Master's discernment of Love's allness that enabled him to maintain his love for all men. And this empowered him to withstand the world's hatred without faltering and to prove the mythical nature of evil step by step until the whole false sense of existence fell away from him and he no longer witnessed it. His love was steadfast because he knew the steadfastness of his divine Principle. He said (John 15:9), "As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love." There was no room for evil in his conception of Love.
