I am very grateful for Christian Science...

I am very grateful for Christian Science and for what it has done and is doing for the world. When I was about nine years of age I was lame; and one day while I was in school in Germany the teacher quoted from the twenty-eighth chapter of Matthew, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." I was conscious of the divine presence and said to myself : "The truth Jesus taught is here today. I will ask God to heal me." When we arose to repeat a prayer I straightened out my leg, and later walked home like other children. I was healed. I knew from that moment that there was a rule of healing in the Bible, but I could not find anyone who taught it. So I prayed and searched for such a rule.

About two years after the above healing my family came to America, and I was happy to find so many different kinds of religion. Surely, I thought, there is one among them that teaches the healing of the sick through prayer in Jesus' way. Although it was a long time before I found this religion, the flame of hope still burned in my heart.

Then one day I met a woman who was a student of Christian Science. I heard her give a testimony of healing in Science, and I knew immediately that I had found what I had long been seeking. On the way home that evening I spoke to her, and the truth she expressed healed me of the fear of tuberculosis. I had nursed my father through the last stages of that disease and was very fearful of it. I began at once to study Christian Science, and I can say with our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii).
