Expanding our Concepts

[Note: Extracts from reports prepared for the Reading Room Division by a Committee Chairman and a Librarian active in their branch churches.]

In August this committee invited the members of the Reading Room staff to attend its monthly meeting. At that time it was proposed that the two groups unite in the planning of an October membership meeting in the interests of a deeper appreciation of our Christian Science Reading Room, which had then been housed in its own new building just a little over a year. In September a second joint meeting was held, at which we worked out practically the whole proposed plan for the program of such a meeting, subject to further unfoldment.

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 70), "The testimony of the corporeal senses cannot inform us what is real and what is delusive, but the revelations of Christian Science unlock the treasures of Truth."

Our idea was to send, with the approval and authorization of our board of directors, a letter announcing our meeting, the purpose of which was to "unlock the treasures of Truth" available in our Reading Room. In view of the quickened and increased support of the Reading Room activity by our membership as a whole, particularly during the previous fifteen months, and the faithful service rendered by the large number of volunteer attendants, we anticipated an enthusiastic response to our letter and a large attendance at the meeting.
