Signs of the Times

"From the Dean's Study" a column in The Fisherman Armidale, New South Wales, Australia

I want to share with you an experience which has been mine during the past week. For some months past I have been visiting a young girl ... who was taken to hospital suffering from poliomyelitis, losing the use of her limbs and her right Side.... Eventually she was allowed to go home on condition that a nurse and therapeutist were engaged to carry on the care and attention which she needed. I saw her go away on her stretcher, smiling but still without movement in those limbs.

Her parents and she were students of Christian Science and believed that health belongs to the realm of the mind and that a tranquil mind with no bitterness towards others was a condition of good health; and Bel seemed to have caught this calm and tranquil spirit.
