When I was eleven years old, I...
When I was eleven years old, I became a member of a Protestant church, and later my children and I attended services there.
My sister and a niece had passed on with consumption, and I became very ill. I was suffering from hemorrhages, pleurisy, and also a heart condition. The doctor said that if I did not have an operation I could not live very long. I was taken to the hospital, where f remained for several weeks. Then the doctor ordered me to be taken home, saying that there was no hope for my recovery.
One day a friend called, and while talking with her I told her that I no longer believed in God because I could not understand why God would take me away from my two little girls, who needed me. Then she told me of Christian Science, which I had never heard of before. She also gave me the telephone number of a Christian Science practitioner.
