THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICATION OF GOVERNMENT

Christ Jesus said, "Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar's; and unto God the things that are God's" (Matt. 22:21). It is, then, right for us to work to protect and develop the highest concept of government of which we are capable. Regulative laws and political institutions are necessary at present, and they should receive our respect and support.

Christian Scientists everywhere owe a debt of gratitude to the constitutional government of the United States of America, under which the Cause of Christian Science has developed. By demonstrating its usefulness, this religion has taken root and grown in fertile soil.

The great need today is the spiritual and moral atmosphere in which a government may fulfill its mission to the benefit of its citizens in particular and its neighbors in general. The inherent rightness of divine government must be demonstrated in this age. A pressing need is enlightened prayer on the part of each individual.
