When I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

When I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for the first time, it was not for the purpose of a physical healing. However, when I had finished reading the book, I realized that I was completely free from chronic constipation and stomach-ache, for which I had been taking medicine for a long time. This first healing proved to me that Christian Science is a practical religion.

A short while afterwards I had a skin disease. I tried to put into practice what I knew of Christian Science, but without apparent result. At that time the friend through whom I had come in contact with this Science advised me to call on a practitioner. The practitioner lovingly helped me, and I soon began the study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. Great progress resulted, because I began to understand the Bible, of which I knew but little, and I learned many beautiful truths.

However, I was not healed, and I went to another practitioner. Several months of continuous study with the help of the Concordances to the Bible and the works of Mrs. Eddy were necessary, and much work was done by the practitioner before I was healed. I am deeply grateful for this healing, although it was long in coming; I learned to purify my thought by ridding it of animosity, impatience, and criticism.
