HAPPY, HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Spiritual refreshment and heavenly inspiration should be the keynote of the Christmas season as we celebrate it in Christian Science. Christmas brings the joys of reunion, opens the sanctuary of sacred memories, and points the way to the ever-present and ever-available Christ. Happy, happy, is the Christmas in which the spiritual gifts to be found in Christian Science are brought from "the secret place of the most High" with their ministry of healing and blessing.

What are these spiritual gifts, and do we not as children of God already possess them? We possess whatever we understand of God and His Christ. The truth we understand is the truth we possess, in other words, the truth we make practical. Perhaps the greatest gift bestowed upon us is the gift of salvation. Mary Baker Eddy writes in her Message to The Mother Church for 1901 (p. 11), "Through this redemptive Christ, Truth, we are healed and saved, and that not of our selves, it is the gift of God; we are saved from the sins and sufferings of the flesh, and are the redeemed of the Lord."

Many Christians have wandered far away from the true spiritual concept of Christmas. It is necessary that this spiritual concept be restored. The salvation of the world depends upon spiritualization of thought and cannot be obtained by any other means or methods. In the degree that genuine good will and gratitude find expression in our hearts at the Christmas season we are not without the spiritual significance of Christmas.
