About nine years ago, after being a slave to medicine of all sorts, I took up the study of Christian Science. That "man's extremity is God's opportunity" was certainly proved true in my case. It was not until I had had a complete nervous breakdown, had been in bed for a month, and had little desire to live any longer, that I began the study of Mrs. Eddy's writings. The healing of the nervous condition was a slow one, but it forced me to study Science and Health thoroughly. Through reading this wonderful book I was healed not only of the nervous trouble, but of fallen arches, headaches, colds, insomnia, and many other physical problems. Some of these healings were instantaneous. Loneliness, despair, and self-pity also vanished.

To elaborate on one of these healings: For about ten years I had suffered greatly from weak arches. I had treatments from medical doctors, chiropractors, osteopaths, and chiropodists. I had purchased special shoes, and finally I had special arch supports made. But neither the doctors, the shoes, nor the supports gave me anything but temporary relief.

I was wearing the made-to-order supports at the time I began my study of Christian Science. I was so interested in overcoming a nervous breakdown that it never occurred to me to apply Christian Science to my foot trouble. I had been reading Science and Health in connection with the Scriptures for just two weeks when I noticed that my feet no longer hurt and I seemed almost to be floating on air. I threw away my arch supports, and have never worn them or any specially made shoes since.
