RIGHT UNDERSTANDING OF IDENTITY DEMONSTRATES HARMONY

"CHRIST presents the indestructible man, whom Spirit creates, constitutes, and governs," we read in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 316). Through study of the Scriptures, together with Science and Health, we learn the truth of man's being, epitomized in the statement quoted above. Logic and inspiration assure us that man reflects his creator and that creation is spiritual. Man must, then, be a spiritual identity, made in the image and likeness of Spirit.

God, infinite Spirit, is wholly good; He includes no evil and lacks no good. This is also the truth of individual man. Individual identity is constituted wholly of Spirit's attributes. The seeming absence of good or the seeming presence of evil in human experience can be associated only with the supposititious creation of a supposititious creator, the carnal or mortal mind.

The healing of either aspect of error comes about through the replacement of the erroneous supposition with the truth of being. Replacement is effected by denying and turning away in thought from the false suggestion presented by material sense testimony that man is mortal, hence destructible, and by maintaining the consciousness of God as All and ever present and of man's identity as Spirit's indestructible creation. Man, created and governed by Spirit, is inviolable. He is not subject to the limitations that characterize matter.
