I am indeed grateful for Christian Science...
I am indeed grateful for Christian Science and wish to testify to the great good that has come to me through this new-old Christianity. I was three years old when my parents became interested in this Science, and so I had the invaluable experience of unbroken attendance in the Sunday School and of living in a home in which Christian Science was applied to daily problems.
Shortly after taking my first job I decided to purchase a life insurance policy. The required physical examination resulted in a denial of my application for insurance because of what the physician named kidney trouble. Christian Science treatment was begun immediately, and with the help of a practitioner there followed several months of consecrated study of the Bible and of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. A pocket edition of the New Testament became a constant companion, and lunch hour, together with other free time, became a study hour.
This period still remains a shining example to me of the good that is accomplished through sincere study and the application of spiritual truths to each day's experience. Not many days passed before the desire for tobacco disappeared. Undesirable traits of character were overcome, and a completely new attitude was manifest, so much so that a friend of many years remarked about it with surprise and approbation. During this time I proved for myself Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 261 of Science and Health, "Hold thought stead-fastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proporationably to their occupancy of your thoughts." I do not remember that there was any certain time that I might have said, "Now I am well," for the thought of kidney trouble gradually faded from consciousness. Soon application was made for another examination, and the insurance was granted.
