Christian Science came to me...

Christian Science came to me while I was taking nurses' training at a hospital in the United States. I had seen some patients who had been given up by the physicians healed through Christian Science. However, in my ignorance of the subject, never having read a word of it, I had much prejudice to overcome.

Loving relatives saw that I needed help and a better concept of God, as I was dissatisfied and unhappy. At their request I went with them to the nearest Christian Science church and began reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I was not conscious of getting much out of it to begin with, but some beautiful truths stood out, one of them being God's omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience.

During the last year of my training I fell ill with typhoid fever. After six weeks as a patient in the hospital, where I had loving care, I apparently recovered and was up and staying with friends to recuperate. Then came a serious relapse, when it seemed I was passing on. I was asked if I wanted Christian Science or a physician. I was able to whisper, "Christian Science." In the hospital I had seen many pass on in just this condition. While waiting for the practitioner to come, I held on to the thought that if God is omnipotent, He is just as willing and ready to help and heal here and now as He is at any other time or place. I also thought that I did not need to die in order to get nearer God and that since God is Love, He did not want me to be sick.
