[Original testimony in German]

With all my heart I thank our...

With all my heart I thank our Father-Mother God for all that Christian Science has done and is still doing for me and mine. I am happy that at the age of eight I came into Christian Science through my parents. From then until I was twenty I attended the Sunday School. Then I became a Sunday School teacher, and since the reopening of our church in June, 1946, I have served as Sunday School superintendent. I am very grateful that my dearest wish has been fulfilled, namely, that now my two children, a son of seven and a daughter aged five, enjoy the great privilege of attending Sunday School. Both children are earnest pupils.

At the birth of my first child it was proved to me that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I had longed for a child and was anticipating one with great joy. The birth was delayed several hours, and I was very weak. Neither the doctor nor the midwife was able to hear the child's heartbeats. They could do nothing to help and did not believe that I would survive or that the child would be born alive. Christian Science was prohibited in Germany at that time, and my father, who had been a practitioner for many years, was obliged to work in a business house. My mother telephoned to him frequently at his place of business to keep him informed so that he might maintain the truth. All I could do was to cling to the thought that God is Life, our Life, and that Life is reflected in being. After forty-eight hours my son was born. He was well and strong. The doctor and the midwife were astonished, but very happy over the successful outcome.

On awakening one morning, I noticed that I could hear nothing with my left ear. Only with the greatest effort could I understand what my two little children were saying in the same room, and on the street I could not hear at all, as the other ear seemed to be affected also. I resolutely denied all thoughts of fear and knew that God-given spiritual faculties could never be lost, but that they were preserved in man by Him forever. I rejoiced to know that evil has only a seeming existence and that it only appears to dim the truth of being, which cannot be affected by error; also I rejoiced to know that Truth always destroys error.
