THE LOVE OF LOVE

In the Glossary which Mary Baker Eddy was led to include in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the term Gethsemane is defined on page 586 as follows: "Patient woe; the human yielding to the divine; love meeting no response, but still remaining love."

The phrase "love meeting no response, but still remaining love," indicates something of the wider, more accurate meaning of the word love, which has long been misunderstood. The Apostle John says, "Love is of God," and, "God is love" (I John 4:7, 8). But not until the discovery of Christian Science and the publication of Science and Health did the true, all-embracing, and practical meaning of this word become apparent.

Although love may meet with no immediate response, and at times may seem to meet with hatred from those it was intended to bless, yet ultimately genuine love always achieves its objective.
