THE USES OF INTELLIGENCE
According to the revelations of Christian Science, intelligence is not an ability which is divided unequally among many minds, but the essential quality of the one Mind, God. It is as indivisible as God; and man, Mind's idea, reflects it. Intelligence is inseparable from Truth and lends its uses to nothing that is untrue. Mary Baker Eddy writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 282), "Truth is the intelligence of immortal Mind."
Christian Science reveals God as Truth and His creation as spiritual reality or truth; and it explains all evil to be outside of His creation, outside of truth—hence without real existence. Science accords with the Master's profound analysis of the devil, or evil, as "a liar, and the father of it," and as having "no truth in him" (John 8:44). There is no intelligence in believing that something false is true or that something evil is good. Through true knowing, or knowing the truth, intelligence is used as a power to destroy the untruths of discord and limitation, which have no place in Love's harmonious creation.
Intelligence is the divine energy through which God integrates His spiritual ideas in one infinite, harmonious universe. It is the power of goodness, the substance of all right action. It expresses the justice of Truth, the mercy of Love, the wisdom of Principle, the presence of Spirit. It is the directive force of God's law, the effective might of His infinite accomplishment. Not from human parents does the endowment of intelligence come, but from the one Mind, the only real parent of man. It is through man that Mind manifests its intelligence, and one's least use of intelligence hints the presence of God's likeness, which is inseparable from Mind as its embodiment of the infinite qualities of Truth.
