THE DISCOURSE ON OLIVET

If with spiritual vision we survey the situation confronting us in the world today, we shall see rich promise of progress, freedom, and redemption. Spiritual vision enables us to turn from the kingdoms of this world, torn by strife and threatened with extinction, to the kingdom of Spirit, inhabited by those whose motives and actions are governed by divine Mind, where Love gives enforcement to law, and God is the only lawgiver.

Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 379), "The real jurisdiction of the world is in Mind, controlling every effect and recognizing all causation as vested in divine Mind."

The view we entertain of existence depends upon our outlook, be it material or spiritual. The survey of the material world presents a hopeless picture. Like an old and well-worn garment that has been patched until it falls to pieces, the long-established systems of materialism are disintegrating under the amazing spiritual influence of Christian Science, which is working changes deep down in the consciousness of mankind. Those who cling to materialism see no way of escape from destruction. To them the total extinction of civilization seems threatened. On the other hand, those with spiritual vision can even now discern in this great overturning of materialism the rolling back of clouds of ignorance which have obscured the spiritual perfection of the kingdom of God on earth.
