THE LESSON—SERMON
Through
sterile wilderness their feet were led
In that long trek into the promised land;
Yet with sustaining manna they were fed,
Though none could see it fall or understand,
Except to know that it was heaven-sent
In answer to the cry of Israel,
A solemn and enduring testament
That always with God's children, all is well.
Now as of old the heavenly manna falls—
Substance of life, blest to each differing need—
The ever-answered prayer of him who calls.
We taste the words, remembering as we read
That this, the daily bread for which we pray,
Must needs be gathered fresh by us each day.
