My first knowledge of Christian Science...
My first knowledge of Christian Science came to me through the healing of my mother when I was a very young girl, but it was many years later that I took up the study of it. I had a minor operation, which was pronounced successful, but in a short time the trouble returned. Then I turned to Christian Science, was healed, and began studying. This healing has been permanent.
Some years ago I had wonderful protection in a trying situation. I came home late one summer afternoon, entered the house, and went into the large closet in the front hall, where I left my hat and purse. As I turned and came out of the closet, I faced a young man, who pointed a revolver at me and demanded my money. The thought came to me instantly and clearly, "God is here." I said to the man, "I don't have any money," and took out a small coin purse and showed him the three pennies in it. When he saw this he said no more about money. I told him he had better put the gun away and leave. He did put the revolver in his pocket, but said he would not leave unless I went out with him. There was a telephone on the table in the hall, and I felt that he was afraid that I would call for help.
My great desire was to get him to go away; so I went out with him, and we walked a short distance down the street together. I urged him to stop the thing he was doing, explaining that it would be his ruin, and that there were legitimate ways of obtaining money and happiness. We stopped walking, shook hands, and he hurried away. As I walked home I was filled with gratitude, realizing that I had experienced no fear, no loss, and no harm and perhaps had helped one in need of healing.
