Prayer or treatment in Christian Science is the highest type of Christian ministry

"LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY"

How to pray aright, how to pray the prayer that availeth, has always been the quest of God-loving and truth-seeking men.

In response to the appeal of one of his disciples (Luke 11:1), "Lord, teach us to pray," Christ Jesus gave that all-embracing prayer known to Christendom as the Lord's Prayer. As indicated in the first line of this prayer, a simple acknowledgment of God as the universal Father, the creator of all that is, is the honest and sincere method of approach to efficacious prayer. Such acknowledgment requires much more than a mere tacit assent to the creatorship of God. It calls for a spiritual discernment of His nature, allness, power, and presence and of man as the complete and perfect reflection, or expression, of this one and only cause.

Effectually to understand and use prayer as a healing agency it is well to realize that there is little or no advantage in a petition which does not inspire one to become more heavenly-minded. The real answer to prayer is in the consciousness of man's unity with God. not in the fulfillment of some worldly ambition or the accretion of some material possession. It begets the ability to see all things in their true spiritual light; it does not mysteriously bring us something from somewhere.
