God proved ever-present help. Diseases and grief healed

About twenty-four years ago I took up the study of Christian Science for physical healing after two good doctors had told me they could do nothing more for me. I was suffering from the aftereffects of pneumonia. I sat down and talked this over with God, as I usually did when things went wrong. I asked Him if Christian Science would help me, and I felt such a sweet sense of peace that I knew that was my answer. So I immediately went to my next-door neighbor, who was a student of Christian Science, and asked her if she would make an appointment for me with a practitioner. I also asked her to go with me to the practitioner's home, for I felt too weak to go alone.

I asked God to help me to understand what the practitioner would say, for I really wanted to get well. It seemed to me that I began to feel stronger soon after we left home. Through tears I told the practitioner about all of my ailments, which were many. When I quit talking, she said: "My dear, I'm so happy to know that the evidence which the physical senses are trying to present to you is not the truth, about man made in the image and likeness of God. You are God's perfect child." She began to talk about God—perfect God, perfect man, and perfect universe—which all sounded so good and beautiful to me that I began to drop some of my ailments.

She asked me to get a Christian Science Quarterly and a copy of the textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and to study the Lesson-Sermon daily and to read pages 390 to 395 in our textbook and the ninety-first and one hundred and twenty-first Psalms. I read these over and over again. On the third day I was suffering from a headache. The words on page 392 in Science and Health came to me, "Stand porter at the door of thought." So I began to do just that, to know that I did not have a headache, for it was only another lie; and I found I was free from it. I was very grateful for this healing. In a few days I was completely free from all the ailments. I am very grateful to the practitioner, who was so loving and patient with me.
