Daily practice keeps thought fresh; not "warmed-over" words and phrases

BUILDING BIT BY BIT

Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 449), "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth, but more of Christian Science must be gained in order to continue in well doing." Christian Science is profound in its very simplicity, and the application of its simple truths can occasion what may be considered miracles. But our Leader points out the necessity for continuing diligence and perseverance in daily demonstration of Truth, adding (ibid.), "You should practise well what you know, and you will then advance in proportion to your honesty and fidelity,—qualities which insure success in this Science."

Gratefully contemplating her many healings through Christian Science, a student was impressed one day with the variety of treatment and approach that had been used in making these beautiful demonstrations. In some instances healing had come quickly through simple statements of truth, while at other times it had been necessary to bring to bear upon a problem all the spiritual resources she could muster.

For example, in two experiences of healing having to do with teeth, distinctly different approaches were used. A small cavity was filled through the understanding gained from a thorough, diligent study of the definition of substance as given in Science and Health (p. 468). In contrast, severe toothache was instantaneously healed by a simple declaration of truth. Both treatments, however, were positive, direct, and effective.
