THE EVER-PRESENCE OF GOOD

Many times in the experience of mankind, the attainment of some good thing, some progressive activity, or the execution of some cherished plan is subject to postponement. And yet the Psalmist said (39:7), "Now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee." It is the nature of humanity to put off, to procrastinate, and to wait idly and wishfully for the fulfillment of its hopes at some uncertain future time.

But Christian Science reveals that to God there is no postponement of good. To His spiritual creation, made in His image and likeness, there is no good afar off. In God's infinite being is found the fullness and completeness of all that is divinely satisfying. God needs no time-process by which to attain good. Rather is He perpetually reflecting good in His spiritual creation, man and the universe.

We must change our sense of good from the material to the spiritual and thus experience it by seeking it where it may be found—in God. We must learn that true good is not found primarily in the accretion of things, in the fulfillment of human plans, and not at all in the achievement of selfish ends and aims. We find good and enjoy more of it as we look to the source of it and learn that it is, indeed, the manifestation of God. It divinely and eternally is, because God is. It is therefore never personal and finite, but always impersonal and infinite. The qualities of God, such as dominion, harmony, freedom, joy, peace, and integrity, are spiritual good. Intelligence, love, and understanding are good, also from God, their source. The spiritually mental nature of good is discerned as we dwell upon and value such qualities of divine Mind. Then we find the substance of good to be, not material, but spiritually permanent and ever available to us.
