MISTAKE OR ACHIEVEMENT?

There are times when every individual is faced with the perplexing question regarding a certain decision and action. "Have I made a mistake, or is the turmoil which seems to be unloosed merely a storm to be weathered, as a ship under sail for a worthy port weathers heavy gales?" There is an answer to every such question in utilization of the teachings of Christian Science.

This Science, a reinstatement of the words and works of Christ Jesus, teaches one whose activities are apparently meeting with resistance to search his heart for the motives that impelled them. Was one's original decision based on personal gratification, fear, restlessness, pride, grief, resentment, or any of the turbulent mortal beliefs that falsely claim to be the mind of a person? Was it made under pressure and in haste? Or was the decision carefully and even prayerfully considered, the issues involved being weighed wisely and impartially with loving regard for the rights and welfare of others having part in the venture?

If, in humility, one finds that personal considerations have largely influenced his decisions, thus opening the door to the discords arising from a false sense of being, he can with the help of Christian Science correct his mistake. He learns that because the real man reflects God, good, the error is not his error any more than the shadow on the grass is the grass. On page 71 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes: "Evil has no reality. It is neither person, place, nor thing, but is simply a belief, an illusion of material sense." Freeing ourselves from the belief of personal error, correcting selfish desires, and letting higher wisdom and more love govern our undertakings, we will he enabled to make a new start without hurt, injustice, or humiliation to ourself or others.
