I owe much to God for all the...
I owe much to God for all the blessings I have received through Christian Science.
When still very young in the study of Christian Science I witnessed the healing of a member of the family who had been given up by the doctors. My niece, a little girl of three years, was not expected to live through the night. Since my father and I were studying the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we asked my brother, the father of the child, to have Christian Science treatment. But both parents, lacking faith in Christian Science, refused to have a practitioner.
Since they had been up every night for a week, I offered to stay with the little girl that night so they could rest. Throughout the night, as I sat beside the bed, I prayed to God for understanding and light. But when morning came, the child seemed to be almost passing on. My brother then said, "If you still think Christian Science can help her, please call the practitioner and ask her to come." Starting treatment immediately, the practitioner continued her prayer and work as she traveled the five miles to the farm in a horse-drawn carriage—this was before the day of the automobile— and the family was overjoyed to see improvement in the child even before the practitioner arrived.
