On page 3 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," Mary Baker Eddy has said of Christian Science, "This Science is a law of divine Mind, a persuasive animus, an unerring impetus, an ever-present help." It has occurred to me that testimonies of healing, both written and oral, are a part of that "persuasive animus" which draws the seekers for Truth to Christian Science and furnishes constant inspiration for those already engaged in its study. I therefore wish to express my gratitude for having enjoyed the protective and healing power of Christian Science. I was privileged to attend the Christian Science Sunday School, where I gained a firm foundation.
This grounding in the truth stood me in good stead later when I "wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way" (Ps. 107:4). During this period, when I was on the brink of a breakdown, the knowledge that Christian Science could and would heal me kept me from completely succumbing to this erroneous condition, and with the aid of practitioners I emerged out of darkness into light with a better understanding of Truth and a stronger desire for spiritual growth. I have been healed of many discordant conditions: a serious gum disorder, a badly wrenched ankle, chest congestion, and many other aches and pains. Through relying on divine Love for guidance, I was led to a business affiliation in a field which was of particular interest to me and in a manner which only Love could have worked out.
The Christian Science periodicals have been cause for much gratitude to me, providing relaxation and cultural interest as well as spiritual good. Church membership, with its necessity for metaphysical activity and constant vigilance, has promoted my growth immeasurably and has comforted and blessed me too. I am increasingly grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has so graciously given to the world the fruits of her labor.—(Mrs.) Dorothy H. Chaffee, New York, New York.
