Of Good Report
During the summer months The Mother Church instituted a new plan whereby five thousand CARE (Co-operative for American Remittances to Europe) food parcels, each weighing twenty-one and a half pounds, were sent to the Christian Science churches throughout the British Isles. These were opened and the contents apportioned among the church members and those attending services. In some instances the Sunday School children were also given parcels. No duty is imposed upon the the recipients of these panels, nor is the food received deducted from the individual's food ration.
The following extract from a letter written by the clerk of a Christian Science Society in Cornwall, England, is typical of the great number which have been received in Boston: "We wish to express our unbounded thanks for the loving gift of food parcels sent to us by 'The Mother Church Wartime fund, to which Christian Scientists throughout the world have contributed—bless them! we are all most grateful for this wonderful expression of love, shared by the members and attendants at our services, who were amazed at being included in the gift... We all join very loving thanks and appreciation to you our Board of Directors, and to our countless hosts of friends, for this marvelous gift made possible through our beloved Leader's discovers of Christian Science, wherein all mankind is blessed."
Late in 1946 Christian Science Society, Tokyo, was organized, and upon receiving recognition by The Mother Church early in 1947, began to function, conducting services in American General Headquarters Chapel Center in Tokyo. Although the activity gained its impetus largely from the Christian Science services held by members of the American armed forces stationed in and near Tokyo and Yokohama, it was not long before Japanese Christian Scientists began to attend the services. Soon, Japanese, Americans, and nationals of other countries as well were working together to reinstate Christian Science in Japan.
