Church Dedications
Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.
Springfield Union
Natchez, Mississippi (First church).
The formal dedication of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Natchez, located on Main Street, was held on Sunday, June 8, 1947, with services in the morning and in the afternoon.
The history of this church is one of continuous progress. Nearly thirty years ago a small group of Christian Scientists began meeting in Natchez each Sunday in private homes to read the weekly Lesson-Sermon. Later public services were held in the old Institute Hall (now called Memorial Hall). By October, 1930, the group had increased to such an extent that it was able to form Christian Science Society, Natchez, officially recognized as a branch of The Mother Church, The first Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
