LO! IT IS CHRISTMAS

Do we today,
As long ago,
Fill up the inn,
Our consciousness,
With fretted care
And worldly din,
So when Christ knocks
The keeper calls,,
"No room within"?

Be not deceived,
Haste, open wide
The bolted gate,
bound with the bar,
Self-centeredness.
It is not late,
Christ never leaves;
The carnal thought
Is not our guest.

When faith, and hope,
And unselfed love
Release the latch,.
Behold the Christ—
The perfect one,
The true idea,
The Father's Son—
Has room within
Our consciousness;

And, lo!
It is Christmas.
