HOW CAN I HELP THE WORLD SITUATION?

The first tenet of Christian Science as found in its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, reads as follows (p. 497): "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." A simple statement, yet it points out the way to correct the woes of a world which to mortal sense is sick, hungry, homeless, and war-ravaged. Fear of a World War III, fear of atomic energy, fear of utter destruction, is clouding the thinking of mankind. Nevertheless, a bright star of hope shines through the clouds, for many are reaching out to God each day for guidance in private and national affairs. And God will not forsake those who turn to Him for help and guidance. We find proofs of this fact in both the Old and the New Testament.

The Master healed the sick, raised the dead, cleansed the lepers, and cast out demons. In addition, he instructed his disciples to go into the world and do likewise. These instructions, which appear in the golden seal on the cover of the textbook, apply to all students of Christian Science, adherents of Truth.

One may ask: "How can I help the world situation? I am not sitting in on any of the international conferences; I am just a bystander." An adherent of Truth knows that to accept such an attitude is to deny the power of Truth. The composite thought of the material world is but the result of one individual's thinking added to another individual's thinking until it becomes the consensus of public opinion. How important it is, then, that those educated in the truth think correctly about men and nations!
