FINDING THE WAY

That there is a way to heaven, harmony, is very definitely set forth in the conversation between Jesus and his disciple Thomas, as recorded in the fourteenth chapter of John. After speaking of his Father's house of many mansions, Jesus said (verse 4), "And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know." And to the doubting Thomas he presently explained, "I am the way, the truth, and the life."

Christian Science, or the Science of Christ, comes to us first to assure us that there is away out of every human difficulty, and secondly to show us the way. Mary Baker Eddy gives these words of encouragement to the traveler in the journey of life (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, pp. 149, 150): "Remember, thou canst be brought into no condition, be it ever so severe, where Love has not been before thee and where its tender lesson is not awaiting thee. Therefore despair not nor murmur, for that which seeketh to save, to heal, and to deliver, will guide thee, if thou seekest this guidance."

The truth of this statement was beautifully illustrated to a sincere student of Christian Science some years ago. Her three children became ill and evidenced the symptoms of a contagious disease. The mother spent the day and evening in study and prayer and went to bed that night earnestly seeking to lift her thought above the testimony of the material senses.
