Sunday School Teaching

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has much to say about the reality of harmony and the unreality of discord. We learn from her writings that harmony is universal, spiritual, infinite, immutable, natural, perpetual, and scientific. It characterizes true law; it is to be found outside a material sense of things; it is synonymous with heaven.

Our Master said (Matt. 19:14). "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." This twofold admonition should be of particular interest to the Sunday school teacher. Through the ministrations of our Sunday schools many a child thought is led to perceive, accept, and demonstrate the truths of Christian Science, and thereby realize the harmony of heaven. To the extent that the teacher has helped the child to become conscious of his real, spiritual. Godlike selfhood, he has fulfilled the first provision of this command. However, if the teacher associates with the pupil un-Christlike qualities, he is not beholding that which God has made. In varying degrees he is holding to a concept which cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven, thus disobeying the second part of the Master's command.

Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 206), "The real Christian Scientist is constantly accentuating harmony in word and deed, mentally and orally, perpetually repeating this diapason of heaven: 'Good is my God, and my God is good. Love is my God, and my God is Love.'"
