Each fall, for several years prior to 1916, I was troubled with lumbago, which became increasingly severe. Finally any movement of the body, except walking, was agonizing. Having read the chapter on Prayer in a friend's copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and supposing I had understood it, I tried to apply Christian Science to my difficulty, but got no results. I was determined, however, to find out why I was not healed when others had been. I bought a copy of Science and Health, and careful reading soon showed me where I had failed and brought the conviction that the attacks would recur until healed scientifically. The next fall the condition appeared, but was banished by three days' study of the textbook.

Permanent healing was slow. Before a complete healing was effected I had two more attacks, although of decreasing severity. There has been no recurrence of the trouble, nor have I had one day's illness since then, though there have been other problems to solve.
