"Wanted: a Home"

"Wanted : a Home." How frequently this need is voiced today! In fact, the longing for the blessings of a happy home seems to be never absent from the hearts of men. Mary Baker Eddy evaluates home in these beautiful words in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p.100): "Pure humanity, friendship, home, the interchange of love, bring to earth a foretaste of heaven. They unite terrestrial and celestial joys, and crown them with blessings infinite." And she set an inspiring example to all by her own demonstration of home.

Christian Science reveals that a happy home is possible to all. However, we must remember that in Science one never demonstrates things, but a better, truer consciousness of God and man. The things we need come as the result of right thoughts entertained and expressed, but it is our thought which must receive first consideration. One must begin with divine Mind, where only the true concept of home can be found. Then he must maintain that concept in thought as the ever-present reality of home.

Besides happiness, one of the blessings which home provides is the feeling of being settled. One's first step, then, in working out a happy home may well be to gain a realization of the universality of good; to entrench his thought in divine realities, wherein man's oneness with God, good, ensures oneness with all spiritual ideas, including home. One is required to calm any disturbed sense of dissatisfaction; to still the suggestions that he is unhappy, lonely, or unpleasantly situated. And he does this by declaring the truth that God is satisfying his right desires, and that he is at peace and happy in God's love for him.
