I became interested in Christian Science...
I became interested in Christian Science more than thirty-five years ago. At the time I was suffering from a severe chill, and it was believed that I had lung trouble. The doctor had said I must take great care. My mother, who had become interested in Christian Science through an uncle, came into my room one day and put the textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on my bed and asked me to read the book for her sake. When my mother left I flung the textbook as far away as I could and lay down. I thought it would have been better if she had given me something to drink rather than a book to read.
At that moment I began to cough severely. I thought of my mother's request, and I knew that she would never ask me to do anything that was not right. So I got up, picked up the book, returned to my bed, and began to read the chapter on Prayer. I got to page 6, where these words appear: " God is Love.' More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go."
When my mother returned to my room I said to her: "This book is wonderful. Let me read this portion to you." After she left the room I continued reading for some hours without stopping. As I read on I saw that, in reality, I was God's reflection. On page 471 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says, "Man is, and forever has been, God's reflection." When I closed the book I knew that I had found what I had been searching for. From that day to this I have had no return of lung trouble.
