The
night was dark and filled with dread,
And no light came with day;
Despair and pain had bound me fast,
For I had lost my way.
Then turning thought to things above,
I strove the truth to see;
I ate the bread and drank the wine
Of immortality.
Joy filled my heart with gratitude
And swept away the gloom,
As swiftly as a curtain drawn
Aside will light a room.
God sent an angel visitant
To light the way for me,
And now I stand upon the mount
Of revelation—free!
