Morristown, New Jersey (First Church)

Dedication services of First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Morristown, New Jersey, were held on Sunday, January 7, 1945, in the morning and afternoon.

In the year 1903 three residents of Morristown were healed in Christian Science. In 1906 a small group met in the home of one of these. Subsequently meetings were held at various locations in Morristown until 1927.

The group then organized into a Christian Science Society, and a Reading Room was opened in the Babbitt Building. The society quickly outgrew its quarters, and in April, 1928, bought the property on the corner of Maple Avenue and Miller Road. In that year the members voted to incorporate as a church. The society then became First Church of Christ, Scientist. Morristown, New Jersey.

The church has maintained a Sunday school since its early days. A Reading Room was maintained on its premises until May 1, 1944, when it was moved to the business section, and is now located at 1 South Street.
