Too much time has already...
Too much time has already passed without my expressing in writing my gratitude for Christian Science. I wish to take this opportunity to make amends.
Properly to understand the mental state in which Christian Science found me, it is necessary to know the highlights of my experience prior to that time.
From early boyhood I had been greatly interested in anything and everything of a materially scientific nature and had a great yearning to comprehend the underlying reasons for things. I had full faith that the natural scientists who had accomplished so many wonders could lead me into this broader explanation which I sought and vaguely sensed must exist. Impelled by this desire I carefully prepared myself for a career in natural science, and in due course received an engineering degree from a large university. At the conclusion of my college work, I was completely absorbed in materialistic learning. However, beneath it all there was a deep sense of disappointment because I had not found that satisfying sense of understanding which had been so earnestly sought. Comfort, however, was found in the belief that this goal lay still farther along the same road.
