Finding the Christ
What joy and satisfaction come to us when we find the Christ, Truth! "Is the wise man of to-day believed, when he beholds the light which heralds Christ's eternal dawn and describes its effulgence?" asks Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 95). That the Christ is here with us at this very moment, healing all our sickness, sorrow, and sin, is being demonstrated in Christian Science practice.
Christian Science is the promised Comforter, and many have been healed simply through reading Mrs. Eddy's writings. Someone may ask, "How can reading a book heal my body, which is physical?" As we read the writings of our Leader, whose thought was so pure as to discern the Christ and reveal it again to the world, we begin to see that man is spiritual, not material, because he is made in the image and likeness of God, Spirit. As the Christ, Truth, continues to unfold in our consciousness it destroys everything unlike God, good, and we find ourselves free from constricting beliefs, and the body then resumes its natural functions.
Complete healing always follows when we fully realize the presence of the Christ. An understanding of the definition of "son" which is found on page 594 in the Glossary of our textbook enables us to know that the real man has no material body. The definition reads in part as follows: "Son. The Son of God, the Messiah or Christ." The only body which man is conscious of, and in reality has, is his embodiment of all right ideas; and no disease or fear or sin can touch or fasten itself on a right idea!
