Excerpts from Letters Concerning Christian Science Wartime Activities

[From an American sailor]

I am very new in the study of Christian Science. My wife, who is a member of The Mother Church, first brought it to my attention approximately two years ago. However, I failed to realize the unlimited benefits of this religion of divine Truth and Love, and made little progress toward an understanding of it.

About nine months ago I was transferred to overseas service, and while sailing on board the transport I became very depressed and bemoaned my physical separation from those I loved. And so, as many people do when claims of despair take hold upon them, I found myself thinking of God and, to my surprise, of Christian Science also. I recalled that my wife had placed in my sea gear some Science literature plus my Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The first booklet I opened was "God's Law of Adjustment," which certainly fitted the occasion. After reading this article, I found myself completely transformed—healed of homesickness.
