Signs of the Times
"Blessed are the meek"
Journal-Herald
Dayton, Ohio
He who knelt before the disciples and bathed their feet had no desire for the esteem of the world. He was aware of the evanescence of all those things which contribute to the pride and pomp of man. He saw the fate which awaits enthroned mortality. He was less a citizen of the earth than of the kingdom of heaven—the inner realm of God-consciousness. In this knowledge he was humble of spirit.
His was the true humility, and it remains for us to become acquainted with this quality, which is of heaven and not of the earth; which is altogether spiritual, knowing no taint of mortality. This humility must not be mistaken for timidity, nor for that abjection which cringes. Nor should we believe it to be the fawning attitude which seeks to win favor through flattery.
