Morale

To preserve in ourselves the highest and best, to be faithful to our understanding of what is right, and to stand firm when slackness and depression are rife around us, is to attain a high standard of morale.

Today moral fiber is being strained to the utmost and many ask, "How can I keep on the course which I, in my heart, know is right?" God's message to Joshua centuries ago encouraging him to carry on Moses' work of leading the children of Israel, rings out today in strength and purpose, "Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

Sometimes it is wise to step aside mentally and take stock of what is delaying our progress. Is it resentment at having to be subordinate to authority that is trying to get us down? If so, we can use this new experience as an opportunity to learn more humility, more tolerance and good humor. Is it the drudgery of seemingly unnecessary duties which stirs up irritability and criticism? Then we can practice patience and cheerfulness, and help others to do the same. Exercising such qualities, we find that the annoying elements cease to affect us.
