Christian Science Committee on Publication for Alberta, Canada, Reports

During the year there were two pulpit references to Christian Science, to Christian Scientists, and to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. In the one—a radio address—the radio station manager co-operated with this office in effecting a better understanding. The sermon of the other minister was wholly adverse. However, he has since been reading authorized and approved literature supplied from this office. Other circulated literature against our religion has been noted and reported, but is not much in evidence, and none of it was printed in this province.

Thirty condensed reports of the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church given to daily and weekly newspapers brought a good share of publicity. Lesson-Sermon excerpts, reports of our annual Thanksgiving services in branch churches, items of interest about the Calgary and Edmonton churches, also The Christian Science Board of Directors' stand regarding Compulsory Health Insurance at Ottawa, were published; and the "Gems of Thought" continue in the weekly press.

The "subscription in exchange for advertising" arrangement of The Christian Science Monitor continues to provide this office with a valuable contact with the editors of daily and weekly newspapers. The advertisements bring our newspaper and our religion to the attention of innumerable readers. Many items are reprinted from the Monitor. As many as three and four items associated with Christian Science have thus been noted in a single issue.
