Letters to the Press from Christian Science Committees on Publication

Lt. Col. Robert E. Key, District Manager of Committees on Publication for Great Britain and Ireland Croydon Advertiser

Writing in a recent issue under the heading of "A Simple Faith," a correspondent declares that "Christianity is not a scientific subject," which is what Christian Science teaches, and what your writer evidently objects to. In making this assertion he does not understand the significance of the word "science," but obviously limits its application to the so-called material sciences.

The word "science" literally means "demonstrable knowledge"; therefore Christian Science is the demonstrable knowledge of Christianity. Wycliffe, the great Bible translator, used the word "science" in its correct signification when he gave the rendering "scyence of helthe" to the words which are translated in the King James Version (Luke 1:77) as "knowledge of salvation."
