God's Method of Reward

When men's eyes are opened to perceive the blessings which God bestows on His children, the prophecy will be fulfilled. "All the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord." God's methods are not the methods of mortals; but man, through Christian Science, can learn to watch for and accept God's way of giving.

A simple illustration can be used to bring out the distinction between the human and the divine way of giving. A student of Christian Science awoke one morning with an inner conviction that the day ahead was to bring something good. He looked forward to it eagerly, in anticipation of what the good might be. When he reached his office, there lay on his desk a letter and a magazine. One of these contained evidence of the successful endeavor of a friend; the other contained evidence of his own failure to succeed in the same endeavor.

Thoughts of envy, jealousy, and disappointment welled up in him, and the suggestion came, Why should this individual, seemingly much less capable than I, be accorded an honor which I am denied? Instantly, the "still small voice" whispered: Here is the good you anticipated this morning when you awoke. It is up to you either to accept or to reject what God offers you. Thank Him for what is before you; for here is your opportunity to drop some more of mortality's claim upon you and taste the blessed fruits of that Love which is God.
