Living in Heaven Now
Many students of Christian Science, either at the outset of their study or later, believe that they would be much happier in another environment, far removed from what they regard as the irritations and discords of their present surroundings. They tell themselves that another house, locality, or place of business would be conducive to higher demonstrations, because they now feel their efforts hampered by their fellow men or by inharmonious environment.
When one moves under the impulsion of Mind, that is a step of progress. But some who have tried moving away from an uncongenial atmosphere have not found harmony in their new locality. Why? Because they failed to leave behind their discordant thoughts, and "carried forward" their mortal beliefs to the next phase of their experience. We cannot overcome false beliefs and wrong thinking merely by changing our physical location. If we would vanquish the discord which is interfering with our progress, we must destroy the error of sense and replace it with the pure, loving thoughts which our real selves reflect every moment from our Father-Mother God.
On page 587 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy defines "heaven" as "harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul." We can then, if we will, think God's thoughts, live in heaven every moment, and our human abode will cease to manifest the disagreeable features which we formerly associated with it. We have accepted the spiritual fact that our real selves are not limited to matter; that our real dwelling is not within a material structure; that we are in the company of God's spiritual ideas.
