Rejoicing Always

Paul must have earnestly hoped for a literal acceptance of his counsel to the Philippians to "rejoice in the Lord alway," for he repeated, "And again I say. Rejoice." Some, however, may pass over the clear implication in the apostle's words, and ask. "How can I really rejoice at all times, in the face of so many temptations to be discouraged or dismayed?"

If we accept the tenet which Mary Baker Eddy gives us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 497). "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life," may we not gratefully accept also, as inspired direction. Paul's advice to rejoice constantly?

Perhaps we do not find ourselves always rejoicing in divine Love's omnipresence because we too readily admit into consciousness the aggressive suggestions which claim to contradict this omnipresence. For this we alone are responsible. "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good," Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 393 of Science and Health. "God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man."
